Preschool/Pre-K Challenge Island STEM Day and Science Fair

“Challenge Island” is coming to the school to do STEM activities with our students on Thursday, March 27 for our All School STEM Day!  Preschool through Kindergarten will have their own STEM session, The Penguin Slide Challenge which includes challenges where the children learn about concepts of  slope, friction, and motion while making toboggans for their own penguin.  (See attached flyer)
Also, each Preschool and Pre-K class is doing a class-wide Science Fair project during the month of March.  Preschool/Pre-K will have their own ‘Mini-Science Fair’ presentations of their class Science Fair projects immediately after their STEM session on March 27.
Things to know for this special day:
  • The Challenge Island Preschool through Kindergarten session will take place in the Sanctuary (and lunchroom area) on Thursday, March 27 from 9 am – 10:30 am.  Immediately following the STEM session, the preschool/pre-k classes will assemble together to present their Science Fair projects which will be displayed in the Sanctuary.
  • Parents are invited to attend either or both events on this day.  Parents may be asked to lend a hand during the Challenge Island STEM activity if the instructor, Ms. Judy requests extra assistance with the “hands-on” activities.  Otherwise, please feel free to come observe the activity and the presentation of the Preschool/Pre-K Science Fair projects immediately afterwards.
  • If your child does not attend on Thursdays, they are most welcome to attend either or both of these events on March 27!  If you wish for your child to attend, you may bring your child in time for the start of the Challenge Island activity at 9:00 am or for the start of the Science Fair presentations at 10:30 am. You will be required to remain at school throughout the duration of the activities.  Your child will then leave with you at the end of either or both activities.   NOTE:  If you plan to bring your child to the 9:00 am Challenge Island activity you MUST let your child’s teacher know by Thursday, March 20.  There is a “per student” cost for the Challenge Island event and we are required to provide a head count by March 20.  Additionally, the PTF is sponsoring this event and are generously paying for all of the students!
